In SAP MM, when a purchase order is created for subcontracting work, the components are consumed based on the bill of materials (BOM) or the service schedule that is assigned to the subcontracting order. The quantity of components needed is determined by the work breakdown structure (WBS) element or the activity that is part of the subcontracting order.
