Explain batch management process.

Answer Posted / Waseem Farooq Khan

In SAP MM, Batch Management is used to track and control materials that are processed in batches. This includes raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods. The batch management process includes the following steps: 1. Batch Creation: Batches are created using transaction OVBW or OVBO. 2. Goods Issue/Receipt (MI): Batches can be issued or received as part of a stock movement. 3. Quality Inspection: The quality of the batch is inspected to ensure it meets the specified quality criteria. 4. Processing: The batch undergoes processing, which could involve various activities such as mixing, heating, cooling, or fermentation. 5. Testing: The processed batch is tested to ensure it still meets the quality criteria. 6. Batch Splitting/Merging: If necessary, batches can be split or merged during processing.
