Subroutines in ABAP can be either internal (defined within a program) or external (called from another program or module). Internal subroutines can further be classified as function modules, function groups, and procedures. Function modules return a value (either by reference parameter or explicit return), while procedures do not. Function groups are collections of related functions that can be executed together.
