What is normalization, first normal form, second normal form, third normal form?
Answer Posted / Pratibha Yadav
Normalization is a process of organizing data in a database to minimize redundancy and dependency. It aims to achieve higher levels of data integrity and efficiency. The Normal Forms (NF) are steps within the normalization process: First Normal Form (1NF) ensures each table has a primary key, every column contains atomic values, and there are no repeating groups. Second Normal Form (2NF) eliminates partial dependencies by ensuring that each non-key attribute is fully functionally dependent on the primary key. Third Normal Form (3NF) eliminates transitive dependencies by removing any non-key attributes that depend on other non-key attributes.
