Stars appear to be different colors due to a process called stellar evolution. The color of a star is determined by its temperature, with hotter stars appearing blue or white and cooler stars appearing red or orange. This is because the hotter the star, the more energy it emits in shorter wavelengths (ultraviolet light) which includes blue light. Cooler stars emit longer wavelengths (infrared light) that include red light.
