A Windows Server 2008 machine can take on several roles to support a network. Some examples include: File Server, Print Server, Domain Controller, DHCP Server, DNS Server, Certificate Authority, and Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) or Lightweight Directory Services (LDS) for non-domain directory services.
