Materialized aggregates, which are precomputed query results stored in a database, are typically used to improve query performance by reducing the amount of data that needs to be processed. In SAP HANA, however, columnar storage and other optimizations make materialized aggregates less necessary because they can process large datasets directly without the need for precomputed results.
