The series follows the pattern where each number is either increasing by 2 or decreasing by 3. To find the next number, we can look for the missing number between 26 and 28 that fits this pattern. By checking possible numbers like 27-1=26, 27+1=28, 27-3=24, we find that the series is increasing by 2, so the next number should be 28+2=30.
