A PROXY is used when an IDOC partner system cannot be accessed directly, such as when there's a firewall or network issue. In this case, a PROXY acts as a mediator between the sender and receiver systems. An IDOC is directly sent to the partner IDOC receiving application if there are no connectivity issues.
