what is the
mechanism of
action of local
anaesthetics?
Answer Posted / Ram Bhawan
Local anaesthetics work by blocking the sodium channels in the nerve membrane, preventing the generation and conduction of action potentials along the nerve fibers. This results in a temporary loss of sensation in the area where the anaesthetic is applied.
