BRI (Basic Rate Interface) and PRI (Primary Rate Interface) are two types of ISDN connections. BRI consists of three channels: a 64 kbps B channel for data transfer, a 16 kbps D channel for control signaling and low-speed data transfer, and a 16 kbps N (null) channel that is often left unused. PRI is a higher capacity ISDN connection, typically offering 23 B channels in the U.S. or 30 B channels internationally, along with one D channel for control signaling and low-speed data transfer. Channels refer to individual communication paths within an ISDN connection.
