Token Ring is a network topology used for local area networks (LAN) that provides reliable, error-free communication between devices connected in the network. It is based on a logical ring where data packets, known as tokens, travel around the ring from one device to another. Each device has an opportunity to seize and transmit the token when it arrives, allowing the attached device to send data. The token circulates around the ring until all devices have had an opportunity to transmit data. If no device wishes to transmit, the token continues to circulate. Token Ring uses a technique called CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) to prevent collisions.
