Normalization and denormalization are opposite database design concepts. Normalization aims to reduce data redundancy by organizing tables in a way that minimizes duplicate information and promotes data integrity. In normalized form, each table contains atomic data without any repeating groups or sub-tables. Denormalization, on the other hand, involves duplicating data across multiple tables to improve query performance at the cost of increased redundancy. Normalized databases are not always in normal form (e.g., first normal form, second normal form, third normal form, etc.).
