A transformer is used in an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to step up or step down the voltage of AC power. In a UPS, the transformer increases the battery voltage to match the line voltage, ensuring that the load receives continuous and clean power during power outages or when the input voltage sags or surges.
