Isothermal, isentropic, and adiabatic processes are thermodynamic processes that differ in their temperature and entropy changes. Here's a brief overview of each:
1. Isothermal Process: During an isothermal process, the system's temperature remains constant while work is done on or by the system. The graph of an isothermal process follows a straight line on a PV diagram (Pressure-Volume).
2. Isentropic Process: An isentropic process occurs when the entropy of a system remains constant, which is ideal but rarely observed in real life. The graph of an isentropic process follows a straight line on a P-V diagram and a hyperbola on a T-S (Temperature-Entropy) diagram.
3. Adiabatic Process: An adiabatic process is one in which no heat is exchanged between the system and its surroundings. The graph of an adiabatic process follows a curved line on both P-V and T-S diagrams.
In general, isothermal processes allow for more work to be done compared to adiabatic processes, while isentropic processes offer a middle ground between the two in terms of efficiency.
