for EP6 SP2 there is a tool for copying a portal installation.
Under service.sap.com/swdc you can find an area called Support Packages.
Entry by Application Group-> SAP NetWeaver-> SAP NetWeaver components ( < SAP NW 04 )-> SAP ENTERPRISE PORTAL-> SAP EP 6.0 ON WEB AS 6.20-> Portal Server-> CPPO 5.8.
This tool is available for different platforms to backup the portal and the databases
