what is the difference between the microcontroller and PLC?

Sorry but the question seems to be General the question could be in what application i have to choose ucontroller or PLC ? first we have to understand each one ,PLC structure is based on a uprocessor or a ucontroller it is fully isolated and taking into account the high precision in electronic Design fabrication which is different from one Brand to another also the type of core controller indicates the speed and the arthamtics that can be handeled by the plcs and also the enviroment resistance the PLC have different IP grades(the system electrical isolation to withstand water and dust) depending on the product manufacturer and quality of packaging , PLC software is based on logic(ladder) but most of the manufacturers implented some fuctions that can access the controller memory and the Arithmatical logical units(Alus) to be able to make some arithmatical calculations .the core processor have very high speeds (ucontroller & uprocessor based) but the output could be less speed depending on type of output interface if it is mechanical relays it is limited in speed if it is ssr (solid state relay) it could reach very high speeds in micro-seconds.
what is u-controller? it is a microprocessor integrated with ram rom and some other prephirals we could say it is a very small computer on chip with a limited prephirals there are a huge various types and models of microcontroller each of them have a unique straucture which specifyies the abilities of each controller Ex. 8bit ,16bit,24bit ,32 bit ucontrollers which indicates the basic structure of the controller registers width, ucontroller excute and respond in a very high speeds could reach 10 ns in some products , ucontroller can handel most of arthmatical based operations. the microcontroller can't stand alone it must have an electrical circuit with taking in considration all the circuit design bases and isolatons to have an end product with less errors
.in what applications i can choose ucontroller or PLC ? both are needed in industry but if you need a switching device with a moderate level of control system in less time your choise is PLC if you need to have a high level of control you have to choose a microcontroller solution with taking in consideration all the needed cicuit designs and the packaging system to be able to have a stable enviroment resistant system . Hope to be helpful
