what is auxilliary transformer??

Answer Posted / kingshuk dey

Auxiliary transformer is any transformer used for a separate dedicated part of the circuit/electrical system and does not supply to other parts.
For example, if you have a Motor Control Center with 5 buckets for 5 motors circuits, you can have one dedicated transformer for each of those circuits for control power. Each transformer will hence be an "auxiliary transformer".

Or you can have one transformer providing control supply to all circuits. That will be your "primary or main control transformer".

The prime reason for using auxiliary transformers is to isolate supplies for each equipment, such that if one is affected/damaged, the others are protected and are up and running. Or sometimes because that particular part of the circuit requires a separate supply. (Like, all other circuits can be controlled by 230 VAC, but one part requires 110 VAC, or you need to give dedicated 110VAC supply to SMPS for 24 VDC to PLC).
