Compression ratio for diesel engine is 14 and for petrol engine is 8. When petrol is used in diesel engine, during initial part of compression during cranking it reaches the combustion temp. burns and pushes the piston down _ reverse firing. When diesel is used in petrol engine it will not reach the required compression ratio and it will not burn.
