scale. What is the minimum number of weighs to determine the
ball that weighs less?

1. Determine the set of three with the ball that weights less: Pick 6 balls - weight 3 against 3 - if equal the searched for is within the remaining 3 balls.
2. You are left with a set of three balls, one of which weights less. Pick 2 balls - weight them against each other - if equal the searched for is the one you did not pick.
