How to measure density of oil in your kitchen. i.e
indirectly to verify the quality of oil using min. gadgets
available in the kitchen/house.
Answer Posted / carl_ellis
To determine the density/specific gravity of the oil:
Weigh an empty, clean measuring cup. The larger the volume of the
measuring cup, the better the precision.
Fill the measuring cup with the oil to a marked level, say, 500mL.
Weigh the measuring cup and oil.
Subtract the weight of the measuring cup.
The ratio of the weight of the oil to the weight of an equivalent volume of
water (1 gram/mL) is the oil's specific gravity: weight oil/weight of water
