why we not using 230kv directly why we are stepping down and
then stepping up
Answer Posted / s.ravikumar
NORMALLY THE GENERATING VOLTAGE AT ANY POWER STATION IS 11KV.
THEN THE VOLTAGE(11 KV) HAS BEEN STEPPED UP TO 33KV,110KV,230KV OR 400KV.
THE REASON FOR STEP UP IS TO AVOID THE LINE LOSSES DURING TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION FROM GENERATING STATION TO THE SUPPLIER END(GENERALLY LONG DISTANCE).
ACCORDING TO THE LOAD AT SUPPLIER END THE RANGE OF VOLTAGE VARIES.
EXAMPLE:
SOME OF THE HOUSE HOLD ITEMS ARE 230V(SINGLE PHASE) RANGE:
1.TV
2.IRON BOX
3.FAN,ETC.
AND SOME OF THE HOUSE HOLD ITEMS ARE 430V(3 PHASE) RANGE:
1.3 PHASE MOTORS
SO IT IS CLEAR THAT EACH ITEM HAS SEPERATE VOLTAGE CLASS.SO WE CANNOT GIVE 230KV TO A 230V ITEM(IT DAMAGES THE INSULATION OF EQUIPMENT AND IF NO INSULATION THEN THE USER WILL SURELY GET DEATH).
,HENCE THE GENERATED 11KV IS STEP UP TO ANY OF VOLTAGE RANGES 33KV,110KV,230KV OR 400KV AND IF REQUIRED THE THAT SAME CAN BE STEP DOWN BY TRANSFORMERS LIKE:
1.400KV/11KV
2.230KV/11KV
3.110KV/11KV
AND 11KV/440V
NOTE:IF THE VOLTAGE LEVEL IS HIGH,THEN THAT MUCH OF INSULATION,GROUND CLEACRENCE HAS TO BE MAINTAINED.
