Synchronous generator will have maximum efficiency in a particular range of speed 3000-3600rpm,we have
supply frequency, f=pn/120,
where p=no of poles, n=rotating speed in rpm,
The generation at this high speed is possible with 2 no of poles, so the frequency at 3000rpm is f=2*3000/120 = 50hz and the frequency at 3600rpm is f=2*3600/120 = 60hz so the generation at higher efficiency is possible when the supply frequency is in the range of 50hz to 60hz, in India 50hz is the standard frequency.
