What do you do in Configuration Management?
Answer Posted / thuslimnavas
configuration management is essential to enabling the
execution of tests in a manageable and repeatable
manner. The managed environment configuration includes: all
hardware components, installed software and test data. The
installed version of all software should always be uniquely
identifiable. The configuration of the environment
includes: the version(s) of the software under test, the
configuration of the supporting infrastructure (database
server, web server, store server, operating system, etc)
and the test data.
The configuration should be representative of Production,
but need not be identical. This means that the
configuration needs to be technically correct in order to
satisfy the objectives of the planned testing activities.
NOTE: Test data must be under configuration management and
its use is controlled, where necessary.
