After installing kernal patch if system crashed,then how to
recover?

The above answer is correct , we can also take the backup of
root in tape and unfortunately if something happens bad ,we
can restore the root if corrupted.

Note : Always take a backup of root before applying patch.
Tape backup is reliable.
