First of all let us know what is Tan Delta......?
Tan Delta Testing of a transformer or a CT or a PT determines integrity of insulation of the equipment which determines the remaining life of the equipment. Tan Delta is also called as loss angle or Dissipation Factor Testing.
In a perfect capacitor the curve of voltage vs current are phase shifted by 90..in case if any impurities are present the phase shift wont be 90 degree any more which means it will be less than 90. Thus by measuring new angle developed less than 90 we can calculate the loss angle or the level of insulation.
Measuring of Tan Delta is very simple..We have a Tan Delta Kit which has two terminals coming out of it. Applying the two terminals on top and bottom of the equipment and injecting the current through kit we can get the values of the test..
Tan delta Point is nothing but a point covered by a nut bolt on the bottom side of Bushing of transformer and CT..............
