What is an instrumentation amplifier? How is it better than
a differential amplifier when handling outputs from a
wheatstone's bridge?

Answer Posted / guest

The instrumentation amplifier has high CMRR, high stability
of gain with respect to temperature and high linearity of
gain. It also has very input resistance ensuring that
source resistance unbalances will have negligible effect on
performance. In addition, passive filters can easiy be
incorporated at input to reduce common mode and
differential mode noise. In a sinple differential
amplifier, the gain linearity is poorer, the input
resistance is much lesser (so errors due to source
resistance unbalances can be high), CMRR depends on proper
ratio matching of resistors and can deteriorate with
temperature to temperature effects on resistors.
