How does one detrmine the direction of movement of core in
an LVDT?
Answer Posted / guest
LVDT has an ac excitation. the outputs of secondaries are
added in opposition, and indictaes the deviation in
position of the core from the null position. For detrmining
direction of movement, the excitation voltage of primary is
used as reference, and the phase of the (summed) secondary
is identifed using a phase sensitive detector. This is a
synchronous switch operated with primary excitation, and
rectfies the secondary output is such a way as to produce
positive voltages in one direction (of movement of core)
and negative voltage in the other direction.
