Is it possible to use AC supply insted of DC supply in trip
coil operation? if not, why?

a trip coil is expected to work with high speed reliably so
as to produce effective jurk.
AC supply can also be used for trip coil subject to proper
design. however after comparison for same rating coils, it
will be clear that DC Trip coils exhibit the required
performance as compared to AC
