What is Router ?

Answer Posted / ashoka.lokhande

A Router is a device designed to act much like a bridge
between one or more computer networks, but provide
additional functionality, such as the ability to filter
messages and forward them to different places based on
various criteria. With the use of a router, data packets can
be sent to the next network point. Tables of data is created
or maintained by the router, which then uses it when
determining the best route. The Internet uses routers
extensively to forward packets from one host to another.
