HOW MPLS IS DIFFERENT FROM OSPF? WHY NOW A DAYS MPLS IS
PREFERED OVER ANY NETWORK PROTOCOL?
Answer Posted / santosh
OSPF is a Layer 3 routing protocol. When traffic is to move
using routing protocol OSPF, the router has to do a layer 3
lookup. Whereas in case of MPLS, the traffic is to move,
the router just have to lookup the Label. So the traffic
switching takes place faster with MPLS.
Point to remember is that MPLS cannot be implemented unless
the network is implemented with some IGP like OSPF.
