usage of temp directory should be restricted to 1 gb if
total temp directory size is 5 gb?

Temp Directory Having temp files. Temp files having error files & warning files (these are created by executable programs). These temp directory stored in SWAP.Whenever the system reboot at that time the total temp automatically deleting.So we have to increase the SWAP space.
#swap -a /etc/dev/dsk/c#t#d#s# adding swap space.
#swap /etc/vfstab To make permanent.
