1. A List can be converted to Crosstab but, a Crosstab
cannot be converted to List.
2. This is a very broad question. No one line answer. But
to summarize, answer the following questions - a. What is
the client's business requirement? b. What does he want to
analyse? c. To do so, what functionality client might need
on the cognos report? d. Is the data good enough to fulfil
the cognos report functionality requirement? These set of
questions have much broader implications in terms of report
designing. It needs continuous client interaction to make
sure you are going in the right path.
3. Drill down to the Link/Chart can be specified.
4. tabular SQL. It is one of the components of the Data
Item.
5. Native SQL is what is fired on the database. The other
is Cognos SQL which is Cognos generated SQL to display the
result as per the toolbox item used on report.
6. Refer above answer post.
7. Again, broader question. BI in Datawarehousing is used
to provide interactive analysis to your data in order to
create a DSS (Decision Support System) for an organisation.
8. Union, Intersect, Except.
9. Broader question. There are various attributes to
testing a report - Data, Functionality and Look and Feel.
10. Variables are not there in tool box. They appear when
Condiotnal objects are used. Toolbox has tool objects to
develop reports.
11. Summary filter, Detail filter

I have created a database "TestingDB" in MS SQL Server 2005. I have set the port properties and the Cognos Service is up. But I don't see anything in the Cognos. In the administration i have set the ODBC connection and it tested successfully.If i copy the samples to the appropriate directory then i can see the samples.But I don't know how to do the same thing with my own database "TestingDB".
