what is meant by real power, active power, reactive power &
apprent power ?please explain it?
Answer Posted / raghavendran
Real power refers to the power that is available to the load
or in other words a power is presently being generated. It
depends upon the load power factor.
Apparent power is the maximum power which, a source is
capable of generating at unity power factor.
for Ex : sqrt3* V*I*COS(phi)keeping v = 20 kv and I=20000A
and COS(phi)= 1
we get Apparent power = 692 MVA
where as for COS(phi)= .85 we get 588 kw which is real power
reactive power is something which is not consumed by the
load.It is available circulating in the grid
always.Depending upon the load connected,it is either
rejected into the grid or absorbed in.
