What's the Difference Between Routers, Switches and Hubs?
Answer Posted / semionie_zz
Hub is layer 1 device..all devices connected to a hub are
in a single collision domain i.e. more than 1 device can
send at the same time resulting in collision between data
from different devices, also a hub is a single broadcast
domain.
the switch is a layer 2 device so it understands mac-
addresses so it can forward data based on mac address
table, although each interface in a switch is a single
broadcast domain( for example a hub with group of devices
is conneced to certain interface in a switch), thats why
switch is a multiple collision domain which means that each
interface is a single collision domain, also a switch is a
single broadcast domain.
Router is layer 3 device it doesn't allow collision or
broadcast.
