What are the circuit models used for analysis of medium
length transmission lines? Which one is superior? Support
your answer.
Answer Posted / iamdon
The medium length transmission lines are analysed with the
help of two models...
1)Nominal pie model
2)Nominal T model.
Out of these two models,Nominal pie model is superior in
following terms..
1)In the case of Nominal T model, an extra node is
introduced at the T junction, which increases the order of
system by 1.Increase in order of a system is never desired
as it complicates the control analysis particularly.Nominal
pie model doesn't alter the order of system.
2)In case of Nominal pie model, all shunt parameters
appearing at load end and sending end can be respictively
added to get the equivalent. This simplify the calculation.

ii) A shunt motor supplied at 230V, runs at 900 rpm when the current is 30A. The resistance of the armature is 0.4 ohms. Calculate the resistance required in series with the armature to reduce the speed to 600 rpm, assuming that the armature current is then 20A. [12]
