immediate cause that was due to the introduction of enfield
rifles. A rumour was spread that the grease of the rifles
were greased with the fats of cows and pigs and the
soldiers had to bite it to open. So the Indian soldiers
that consisted of both hindu & muslims refused to use the
rifles.
