What are the various Guidelines follow while Weighting Test
Cases
Answer Posted / ashish
You can provide a more detailed estimate of the test
execution effort by adding a weight value to each test
case. Test execution records inherit the weight of their
associated test case.
Each test case can be assigned a weight value. A test case
that is assigned a weight of 10, for example, might take
twice as long to run as a test case that has an assigned
weight of 5.
Typically, the weight is a numerical value for whatever
unit of measurement the test team is accustomed to using.
Some test teams might think of weight in terms of points,
while others might think in terms of hours, minutes, or
other measurements.
This detailed sizing information is used as input to
several execution status reports. By assigning various
weights to each test case, you can run accurate reports
that take into consideration both the absolute number of
test cases that are run and the required time or level of
effort to run each test case.
To add weight to a test case:
Open the test case for editing.
Type a value for the relative weight of the test case as
compared with other test cases.
