In case of a beam ,main steel is provided along the longer
span because, bending moment is directly proportional to
length but why in case of one way slab main steel is
provided along shorter span while as bending takes place
along longer span?comment

to avoid cofusion provide reinforcement in direction
perpendicular to flexural crack.
in case of slab---- yield line is parellel to longer span,
hence reinforcement is provided parellel to shorter span.
in case of beam flexural crack occures parallel to cross
section ( not parallel to length of the beam). hence
reinfocement is provided horizontally parralel to length.
