Difference between layer 2 and layer 3 devices ?

Layer-2 device(data link layer) is works on physical address mac (media acces control)it is tranfer the data physically address to phycally address which is 48 bit address.
layer-3(network layer) it is work on router and it is responsible search best route of path to transfer the data.
