will we have to design the UPS differently for both i.e. if
we want to connect the two batteries in parallel and/or we
want to connect the two batteries in series ?

In series the input voltage to ups increase and in parller
ampher hour capacity got double e.g i have two battery of
rating 12v 18ah . In parlel i get 12v 36ah and in series i
get 24v 18ah
