Why do series motors have high starting torque?

Answer Posted / glenn saldanha savio

SINCE BOTH FIELD AND ARMATURE ARE CONNECTED IN SERIES THE
TORQUE EQUATION IS T=KI2. (TORQUE PROPORTIONAL TO SQUARE OF
CURRENT).
ALSO NOTE THAT FROM THE CHARACTERISTIC IT IS THAT AS SPEED
INCREASES THE TORQUE DECREASES AND VICE VERSA.
THEREFORE THE TORQUE IS HIGH ONLY AT LOW SPEED.
