howmuch current can carry the 2.5Sqmm copper cable?
Answer Posted / ayad basha
The general thump rule is one square inch copper conductor
will carry 1000 Amps and that of for aluminium conductor is
600 Amps. So, for Cu, 1sqmm = 1.6 Amps appx. and for Al 1
sqmm = 0.9 Amps.
but this will not fit for the increasing cable sizez.
for example for 400Sqmm cable, it will not carry 400 x 1.6=
640 Amps. That is the effective current density of the
conductor decreases as the conductor size increase.
Also depth of cable laying, ambient temperature and cable
grouping also should be considered.
