What is the difference between Relay and Contactor
Answer Posted / gafoor
Most circuit breakers are thermal devices that when excess
current run through them they heat up and trip (open up).
They can also be used as a switch to open a circuit.A
contactor is a electric relay that is essentially a
solenoid and a pair of electrical contacts. The solenoid is
activated and it closes the contacts

in cvt, there are two windings,1a,1n and 2a,2n.in my one project i use only one winding i.e.1a,1n. the other winding is not in use, so i connect it in open delta and want to close it by ibsertibg thermal resistor. the output of cvt is 132kv/115/sqrt3. plesae tell me exact value of resistor, so i may close it to avoid the resonance phenomenin. send me answer on this email adress please. aetcon-po@aetcon.com

Is a contactor (or master relay) required between incoming lines and a VFD? The question goes to safety. If a contactor were used before the VFD and an e-stop engaged then the motor will coast to a stop (i.e. VFD loses power) instead of stopping much faster if the VFD braking fucntion were used. It would make more sense to keep power on the VFD.
