Which semiconductor device is used as a voltage regulator
and why?
Answer Posted / munish kumar
Zener diode is used as a voltage regulator because it is
specially designed, heavily doped Si or Ge diode. We cannot
use "Normal semicondutor diodes" as voltage regulator
because they only conducts in forward bias region and acts
as open circuit (nearly) in reverse bias condition.
Since Zener is heavily doped,so its
depletion layer width is also very thin in reverse bias
condition as compared to normal diodes.
