Hydrocarbons are organic compounds consisting solely of hydrogen and carbon. They can be aliphatic, aromatic, or cycloaliphatic. Aliphatic hydrocarbons include alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes; aromatics have a benzene-like structure; and cycloaliphatics are ring-shaped molecules like cyclopentane.
