How do you shutdown an interface on a router or switch?..

By login to that interface in ( conf t) mode give the
command "shutdown"

particular interface and give the command shutdown.

example:
router(congig) int s o/o
router(config-if)shutdown.

Router(config)#int serial 0/0
Router(config-if)#shutdown
Router(config-if)#ctrl + z
Router#sh int serial 0/0
Router#Serial0/0 is administratively down, line protocol is
down

administratively down shows it is manually shutdown by
administrator
