Zend Framework 2 (ZF2) and Zend Framework 3 (ZF3) are versions of the popular PHP framework with some significant differences. ZF2 is an object-oriented, open-source web application framework using a front controller design pattern. It was released in 2012, while ZF3, released in 2016, focuses on simplifying development by introducing modern PHP paradigms such as Dependency Injection and Composer for package management. In comparison to ZF2, ZF3 features a slimmer core with less bundled components, better performance, increased modularity, improved error handling, and a more extensive use of PSR-4 autoloading standard.
