A 51% attack occurs when a single group or miner controls more than half of the computing power (hash rate) in a proof-of-work blockchain network. This allows them to manipulate the network by double-spending coins, censoring transactions, or reorganizing blocks. To prevent it, diversifying mining pools and increasing network decentralization are common strategies.
