To add a new position in a Joomla 3 template, follow these steps: Go to Extensions > Template Manager and select your active template. In the template details page, click on the Styles tab and then click Style - Overrides. Here, you can create a new XML file for your custom position by duplicating an existing one as a starting point. Define the new position in this file under the `<positions>` tag and save the changes.
